Juergen Riehm, FAIA, BDA

Founding Principal

Juergen Riehm, FAIA, BDA, is a co-founder of 1100 Architect and has been instrumental in shaping the firm’s philosophy and body of work. He believes in architecture as an all-encompassing art form—one that reveals the essence of life and nature through honest, enduring design. Over the years, Juergen has guided the firm in the realization of numerous acclaimed projects, including the Queens Central Library: Children’s Library Discovery Center, the New York Public Library’s Battery Park City Branch, the Irish Hunger Memorial, the Main East Side Lofts, Germany and the Naha City Gallery and Apartment Building, Japan.

With a keen eye for design, Juergen approaches architecture as both an artistic and civic responsibility. He understands the profound impact that well-designed spaces have on people’s lives and is dedicated to creating buildings that are both beautiful and deeply meaningful. His work is grounded in a strong ethical foundation and a commitment to serving communities, promoting social responsibility, and contributing positively to the built environment.

Juergen received a Diploma in Architecture from FH Rheinland-Pfalz in 1977 and a Post-Graduate Architecture Degree from the Städelschule Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. He serves on the advisory board of the Städelschule Alumni foundation. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), a member of the Chamber of Architects in the State of Hessen, and of the Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA).
