David Piscuskas, FAIA, LEED AP

Founding Principal

David Piscuskas, FAIA, LEED AP, co-founded 1100 Architect in 1983 with a belief that architecture—when it’s thoughfully-designed, purposeful, and carefully executed—can activate inspiration, drive meaningful change, and support long-term growth. David also believes the process of thoughful design and careful construction is a team effort wherein dialogue, inquiry, research and commitment to resiliency make for long-lived places of lasting impact.

It is in that spirit that he has led the firm through over 40 years of growth, working closely with clients and 1100 team members to develop award-winning projects in a range of markets: institutional, public, commercial, and residential.

David is a focused and deeply resourceful leader who brings clarity, vision, and determination to every project. He strikes a rare balance between creativity and pragmatism, ensuring that design excellence is always grounded in reality. Clients value his ability to translate their goals and priorities into environments that exceed expectation with respect to function and form as well as the often-complex processes of public approvals and preparedness for construction.

His work has been widely published with features in Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Wallpaper*, and Vanity Fair. He has lectured extensively about architecture, including at numerous universities and colleges, the American Institute of Architects, and the United Nations.

He is recognized as a leader in the profession. Following many years of committed professional service, David served as the 2017 President of AIA New York, where he led a range of initiatives, building community, advancing architectural communication, strengthening equity in the profession, and successfully advocating for statewide legislation to make building in New York more efficient and cost-effective.

David holds a Master of Architecture from UCLA where he received multiple student awards, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Brown University. While at Brown he integrated design study at the Rhode Island School of Design into his degree profile.

A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and a LEED Accredited Professional with the United States Green Building Council, he also holds an NCARB Certificate. He maintains active licenses to practice in ten states and the Distrcit of Columbia, and is a member of the Chamber of Architects in the Federal State of Hesse, Germany.
