Mühltalbad

Originally built in the 1950s, the Mühltalbad is one of Germany’s earliest “adventure pools,” featuring a unique Z-shaped layout and an underwater viewing window for divers. 1100 Architect was commissioned to renovate the historic open-air pool while preserving its landmark status midcentury charm. The project includes technical upgrades, energy-efficient systems, and design interventions that enhance safety and comfort. A solar heating system, in use since the 1980s, is retained and optimized for modern use. Materials such as yellow clinker and concrete are carefully restored to meet preservation standards. The renovation aims to balance historical integrity with a contemporary bathing experience. Once complete, the pool will once again serve as a cherished community asset.
