East Side Penthouse

In a former ballroom on Manhattan’s East Side, 1100 Architect reimagined a sprawling, once ornamented penthouse as a sophisticated modern residence. The design draws on the client’s prominent Pop Art collection, incorporating bold geometry and polished surfaces of lacquered paint, marble, and glass as a genial companion to the vivid colors within the collection.

Abstractions of neoclassical elements inform the spatial rhythm recall the site’s history, with varying ceiling heights recalling traditional decorative transitions. Floor-to-ceiling windows open to sweeping East River views, while the layout balances openness with intimacy. Carefully preserved fragments from the original structure honor the building’s past, creating a subtle dialogue between history and modernity.
