MoMA Design Store SoHo

For the Museum of Modern Art’s first retail outpost beyond its Midtown campus, 1100 Architect designed a flexible and contemporary space within a landmarked cast-iron building in SoHo. The interior features modular display fixtures that accommodate rotating merchandise and evolving curatorial arrangements. Original cast-iron columns are encased in illuminated glass, creating a dialogue between historic structure and modern intervention. A continuous backlit polyvinyl membrane spans the ceiling and folds down onto the wall, extending into the lower level to unify the two floors. This surface doubles as a lighting element, diffusing soft, even illumination throughout the space.
