MoMA Design Store Midtown

1100 Architect’s renovation of the the MoMA Design Store, in Midtown, improves the customer experience, maximizes spatial efficiency, and reinforces the museum’s identity as the foremost platform for modern and contemporary design. The design inserts a “virtual mezzanine” into what had been an entirely double-height space, creating a more human-scaled environment suited to the display of furniture. The mezzanine allowed the store to move its storage off the main level, increasing the total retail floor space. Visitors are guided through the store by an undulating plexiglass display wall that is lit from within. The mezzanine level, in addition to providing storage space, also serves as a display area for larger pieces of merchandise and features theater lighting that allows the store to spotlight individual pieces.
