Southampton Playhouse Wins AIA Long Island Archi Award.

1100 Architect is honored to announce that our Southampton Playhouse project has received a 2025 Archi Award from the AIA Long Island Chapter. The annual program recognizes architectural excellence and celebrates projects that advance the cultural and design legacy of Long Island.

The Southampton Cinema—a historic 1930s single-screen venue later converted into a four-plex in the 1990s—closed during the pandemic, leaving behind its distinctive façade and interiors that had fallen into disrepair. 1100 Architect was commissioned to carefully reimagine the building as the Southampton Playhouse, a renewed community hub for film and performance. The 14,500-square-foot renovation introduces a double-height lobby, expanded ticketing and concessions, and four distinct auditoriums.

The revitalized venue accommodates film screenings, live performances, and community events, ensuring its continued role as a hub of cultural life. Highlights include a digital IMAX auditorium—the only one of its kind within 50 miles—a 35mm projection room, and a flexible multi-use theater designed for both cinematic and civic programming.

We are proud to see the Southampton Playhouse recognized among Long Island’s most distinguished works of architecture.
