Memorial Park

Undertaken pro bono at the request of the Mayor of New York City, this temporary sanctuary offered families of the victims a place to mourn following the events of September 11th. Located beside the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the 1,500-square-foot structure includes remembrance walls, moveable polyvinyl panels, and a scrim-covered ceiling to obscure its utilitarian tent enclosure. A bluestone fountain provides a quiet, meditative atmosphere.

Designed for quick reconfiguration in the event of future emergencies, the project was installed in just 30 days. It balances dignity, spirituality, and practicality in response to a profound civic and societal need.
