Katharina Herzog, AKH

Principal

Since 2017, Katharina Herzog has brought her expertise and attitude to the work of 1100 Architect and has been part of the management team of the Frankfurt office since 2025. Katharina stands for an architecture that emphasizes dialogue, care, and conceptual depth. Her particular focus is on building for art and culture, a field she shapes with architectural clarity and conceptual sensitivity. With the art depot in Darmstadt, she realized one of the first central collection facilities for art and archival materials in Germany.

Even in earlier projects, her broad range—from technical detail to conceptual studies and procedures—was evident. She was primarily responsible for the planning of the administration building for SV Darmstadt 98 as well as the heritage-compliant renovation of the “Böllenfalltorhalle.” She also led the design-and-build process for the Preußen Münster stadium. Her strength lies in translating complex requirements into clear, viable design solutions. For Katharina, architecture emerges where functional, design, and technical aspects are not only coordinated but interlock precisely—with the aim of creating holistic and future-proof buildings.

In addition to her project work, she contributes her structured, solution-oriented approach to the further development of the office, supporting strategic processes as well as organizational issues, and identifying potential in projects and structures at an early stage. In doing so, she places great value on clear communication—both within the team and in close dialogue with clients, planning partners, and contractors.

Katharina studied architecture at the TU Darmstadt and at Università Roma Tre. Both stages shaped her understanding of architecture as an interdisciplinary process characterized by analytical depth, contextual awareness, and a fine sense for spatial feasibility. During her studies, she participated in various research projects and worked at a large Frankfurt architectural firm. During this time, she deepened her view of the connection between design, theory, and practice and developed an approach that combines holistic thinking with a love for detail.

Since 2020, Katharina Herzog has been a registered member of the Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners of Hesse.
