Climate-Neutral Facility Will Preserve a City’s Cultural Assets

1100’s office in Frankfurt, Germany has designed an art depot for the city of Darmstadt, a city of 159,000 people located 20 miles south of Frankfurt. Only a fraction of Darmstadt's 30,000 pieces of art are on display in the city, with the rest currently housed in temporary storage.

The city marked the beginning of the art depot's construction with a special groundbreaking ceremony as the first step towards a permanent solution to preserve Darmstadt's cultural assets. Present were 1100’s Frankfurt Studio Managing Director Gunter Weyrich, BDA, and Architect and Project Manager Katharina Herzog.

1100 is also in the final stage of a multi-phased, stay-in-place aggregation of new construction, reconstruction and renovation for the Darmstadt soccer stadium.
