Koenigsblick Kindergarten

This new childcare center in the growing Riedberg development of Frankfurt, Germany was designed as “a park in the Kindergarten” that encourages connections between interior and exterior space. The building’s U-shaped layout has two purposes: it frames a partially enclosed courtyard, and it acts as a protective element that sequesters the childcare center from the bustling city. The park doubles as a children’s play area and an outdoor classroom in the warmer months. Built to rigorous Passive House standards, the building features several sustainability measures, including a green roof and a high-performance insulated building façade.
