Calvert Vaux Park Pavilion

In Brooklyn’s Calvert Vaux Park, 1100 Architect designed this structure to serve as a public pavilion and a district headquarters for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. The building includes public restrooms, offices, locker rooms, a maintenance shop, and equipment and vehicle storage spaces that services nearby sports fields, and playgrounds. The design also includes new landscaped pedestrian pathways, a rain garden, and enhancing connectivity creating an inviting visitor experience. As public safety and protection from vandalism were central considerations in the design, it features a graffiti-resistant façade, clear sightlines that facilitate efficient supervision, and carefully considered building openings that allow the structure to be easily secured when not in use.
