SoHo Loft

New York, NY

1996

In this SoHo loft we explored the interplay between the existing shell and a sleek new interior, including a careful study of the juxtaposition of natural and artificial materials and raw and refined textures. The perfectly smooth floor, a colored epoxy with a glossy urethane covering, is in stark contrast to the worn ceiling rafters, exposed pipes, and brick walls. Where floor meets wall, hand-gathered stones from the Hudson River Valley fill utility borders to conceal electrical outlets and heating conduits.
