Kita in Frankfurt designed by 1100 Architect

Kita

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

2016

The design of a new childcare center in the growing Riedberg development in Frankfurt am Main was conceived as “a park in the Kindergarten” that encourages connections between the inside and outside. The building’s u-shaped layout is dual purpose, it embraces an enclosed park where children can play, and acts as a protective element shielding the childcare center from surrounding buildings.

Additionally, the shape of the building and positioning of classrooms encourages views through the park to adjacent green areas, further engaging and blending interior and exterior spaces. The Kita park also doubles as an outdoor classroom for the children. In line with passive house design standards, the building’s orientation was carefully planned to allow for the optimum amount of natural light to enter the building. Other notable sustainable design features include a green roof.
