Calvert Vaux Park Facility

Brooklyn, NY

In Progress

Jutting into Gravesend Bay, Calvert Vaux Park is slated to be the center of competitive sports in Brooklyn, boasting six soccer fields and three baseball fields, as well as basketball, bocce ball, and handball courts across the beltway. 1100 designed a 2,000-square-foot pavilion containing offices, a maintenance shop, athletic equipment storage and public restrooms to provide a much needed headquarters for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, while supporting the underserved neighboring communities of Gravesend,  Bensonhurst and Coney Island.

The new building incorporates open sight lines, ADA access and use of natural light, as well as responds to resiliency measures due to its remote location adjacent to the Coney Island Boat Basin; durable and vandal-deterring materials; and easily accessible utilities.
