Project Description

Shiseido Studio, Santa Monica

Santa Monica, CA

2001

The Shiseido Studios, intended as a venue to introduce the philosophy and products of the Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido, functions as a gallery and clinic rather than as a commercial space. For its New York space, 1100 Architect designed an environment linked by a series of unfolding planes. Finished in wood, glass, and concrete, the studios create a contemporary and inviting retail environment that reflect the Shiseido brand. Smooth, molded resin countertops and fabric-lined walls create tactile surfaces that work together with gentle lighting to provide a sense of warmth in the space.
