Juergen Riehm writes guest column for Design Bureau
Founding Principal Juergen Riehm was asked to write a guest column for the Spring 2015 issue of Design Bureau in which he explores the theme “site precedes and informs design”. Among the many inspirations 1100 Architect considers in its design process, none is perhaps more recurrent than a building’s relationship to site. In the column, Juergen emphasizes that there exists a meaningful collaboration between architecture and place and that designers need only recognize these subtle cues to realize a successful project. Two of 1100’s projects, House on Ikema Island (Okinawa, Japan) and Water Mill Houses (New York), are featured in the column, both with an acute sense of place and respect for geographic, climatic, and topographic considerations.
