The Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) has awarded Queens Central Library Children’s Library Discovery Center a Silver Award of Honor.
The 22,000-square-foot Children’s Library Discovery Center addition to the existing central library building is a hybrid children’s library and interactive science museum. The ground floor houses part of the children’s book collection and a designated area for toddlers. The second floor contains the majority of the children’s collection, an open reading lounge, cyber center, and activity room. The design of the CLDC enhances the library’s role as a locus of knowledge and cross-cultural exchange for the diverse, multicultural community of Queens.
